- It does disable v.8, which in turn disables v.34 (since v.34
- requires v.8 for negotiation).

-
- This will probably be your best solution. S15=128 disables v.42
- operation, and since the USR won't negotiate v.42bis over MNP4, v.42bis is
- disabled as well. MNP5 is enabled by default, which probably isn't a
- particularly good thing, since MNP5 compression can actualy slow down your
- throughput unless your transfering purely uncompressed text, and even then
- it's not too effective. To disable MNP5 compression, use the &K3 command.

-
- It's upgradable through a chip upgrade, which should be availible
- from USR tech support.

- I think that would be the first public firmware for the new model
- PnP Sportsters, so it may still be kinda buggy. Getting a new firmware
- from USR might help somewhat, although a better solution may very well be
- to get the people who you're calling to upgrade the firmware in their
- modems. The problem you described was fairly common amounst many early
- Rockwell based modems.
